Music for Monday: Morning Mood (Peer Gynt suite)

Music for Monday

The morning of December 6th was the earliest sunrise for the year in the southern hemisphere in 2015. To mark this day lets enjoy this classic morning piece that evokes the waking and unfurling of the world on a bright sunny morning.

Edvard Grieg was asked to write music to go with the words of Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt in 1864, but he took over ten year to produce the work. Two pieces from the suite have become famous, Morning Mood, which we feature here, and In the Hall of the Mountain King.
